Obituary for Nancy Verneice Maser (Guthrie)

Nancy Verneice Maser, 96, of Scottsbluff, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at The Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Faith United Church of Christ in Bayard with Pastor Tom Smith officiating with graveside services being held at 2pm at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be on hour prior to service time at the church. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Nancy’s honor be made in care of the church. Nancy Verneice Maser was born on December 23, 1925, in Litchfield, Nebraska to Lewis and Lottie Guthrie. Verneice received her education in Mitchell, Nebraska. She married Art Maser of Bayard on July 22, 1942. Together they raised three children and farmed in the Bayard and Minatare area until Art’s retirement.
Verneice enjoyed cooking for German weddings and working at the Bayard Sugar Factory. She loved camping and fishing with the family, especially her nine grandchildren which she and Art took on several camping trips. Verneice made sure to always have a “hidden” stash of chocolate.
She is survived by son John and his wife Joyce of Minatare, daughter Jacque and her husband Rick Kaufman of Scottsbluff, daughter-in-law Colleen of Omaha; grandsons Jeff (Angela) Maser, John (Beth) Maser, James Maser, Alexander Kaufman, Nick (Amy) Maser, granddaughters Richelle (Shawn) Green, Jennifer Dargy, Leigh Anne (Kelly) Tofflemire, Stephanie (Zac) Samson and twenty-two great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Lucille Cook, Elsie Bauer, Leona Henkel, Judy (Richard) Michal, Diana (Ivan) Siewert and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost seventy-five years, Art Maser, son Stephen Maser, brother Garvin Guthrie, sisters Arvilla Ernst and Elvira Hrasky, grandson Robert Kaufman, brothers-in-law Rudolph, John Jr., Don Bauer, Dewey Henkel, Harry Cook, sisters-in-law Ann and Gladys.
