Obituary for Melvin Dean Surratt

Melvin Dean Surratt, 87, of Scottsbluff, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at the Western Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, from 4-7pm at Jones Mortuary. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Melvin’s honor be made in care of his family to be designated at a later time. Melvin was born April 3, 1935, in Scottsbluff to Wilbur “Bill” and Ida (Morehead) Surratt. He graduated from Lyman High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army and spent a tour in Korea during the Korean War. After returning from his enlistment in the Army, he went to work for his parents on the Surratt Dairy, south of Lyman.
Melvin married Nadine Todd Surratt on November, 1957, in Scottsbluff. They were blessed with four children Debbie, Russ, Randy and Diane.
Melvin retired from the Surratt Dairy Farm in 2000. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling after his retirement. He enjoyed going to Husker games with family and friends.
Melvin is survived by his wife Nadine Todd Surratt of Lyman; sons Russ (Yvonne) Surratt and Randy Surratt; daughter Diane (Steve) Bolek of Lyman; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother Garry Surratt of Lisbon, CT.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Donna Sinner and Charlotte Ludwig; daughter Debbie Stubby; and grandson Russell Todd Surratt.
