Obituary for Luba Bartels

Luba Bartels, 94, passed away on November 4, 2021, at Mountain Lodge Assisted Living in Douglas, Wyoming, surrounded by her family. Her funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be from noon until 2pm on Friday at the funeral home. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Luba’s honor be made in care of her family to be designated at a later time. She was born to Pavel and Marfa Arapov September 24, 1927, in Harbin (Manchuria), China. At the age of eight, her family immigrated to Japan in 1938 where she educated at the Joseph International School in Yokohama, Japan. She met and married serviceman Marvin R. Bartels near the end of WW II while employed as a telephone operator in Yokohama. They came to the United States on a troop ship and settled in Minatare, Nebraska, where she was a farmer's wife and owner of Western Gas Pump Service until 1989. She then moved to Casper, Wyoming, where she worked and later retired from Natrona County School District at the age of 80 (she loved her kids).
She is survived by son Marvin (Ruth) Bartels; daughters Diana Awiszus and Kathrine Wood; 4 grandsons David, Alan, Adam, and Scott; 2 granddaughters Kathy and Anne; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Michael and George Arapov, sister Natalie Hicks, and son-in-law Dieter Awiszus.
