Laurie was born March 19,1958 to Lorraine and Robert Thomas of Mitchell. The oldest of 3, Laurie was always the big sister. She had a confidence about her and was not afraid to tackle big adventures in her life. Growing up a farm girl, Laurie was her Dads right hand, whether working cattle, or driving semi-truck, she could do it all. She loved horses, playing softball and being in 4-H. She was an excellent student, and an athletic star, she always knew what she wanted and strived to attain her goals.
Laurie started her schooling at Mitchell Valley School and graduated in 1976 from Mitchell High School where she was voted “Athletic Queen” her senior year. Just this past fall, she went with some of her teammates to Lincoln to accept the 50th Anniversary Award for their State Volleyball Championship when she was a freshman. Laurie was recruited by EWC College in Torrington, WY to play volleyball and led the team to 2 National Tournament appearances. She also attended Colorado State University majoring in veterinary science. Laurie loved all animals, and her pets were her pride and joy.
Laurie had many jobs through the years, she worked at vet clinics and drove truck across the country for numerous companies. 7 years ago, she moved back to work on the farm with us. She loved to garden and sew and took her crafts to many shows. We will miss her so much and will forever wish she didn’t have to leave. Laurie had many challenges in her life, she overcame them all! This time, sadly, she couldn’t win.
Laurie is survived by her sister Bobbi (Kent) Debus and brother Tom (Desiree) Thomas of Mitchell; nieces and nephews Kent (Kellie) Debus, Tyler (Casey) Debus, Jordan (Sophie) Debus, Chantel (Nate) Trubilla, Gracie (Blake) Nelson, Andie Parminter, and Tucker Thomas; great nieces and nephews Joslynn, Tianna, Devyn, Kyliah, Teegan, Tate, Lily, Trenton, Waylon, Liam, Levi, Wes, Hadlle, Sophia, and Lennox; aunts Delores Thomas, Coleen Brown, Helen Honstein, Ruth Honstein; and many cousins. She is also survived by her loving pets Tonka, Punkin, and Misters.
