Joey was born on July 17, 1949, in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Wm (Bill) and Virginia (Hamilton) Lissolo. He went to school in Newcastle, WY and graduated in 1967. He was active in FFA, student council, and high school rodeo.
Joey met Patty Keeline while in high school and to their union, Tammy and Adam were born. In July of 1976, he met Michelle Keller at a roping arena in Dickinson, ND. The were married on April 17, 1977, and along with raising Tammy and Adam, Chad and Cody were born. They lived in Newcastle while they ran Joey’s Arena and night rodeo, Joey’s Auction Service, and he worked at St. Onge Livestock sorting cattle and auctioneering. He also sold cars at the garage.
In 1986, the family moved to the Scottsbluff, Ne area where Joey worked at Minatare Feedlot, Platte Valley Livestock, and Torrington Livestock as an auctioneer and order buyer. Joey was always a promoter, and so JL arena was established and hosted jackpot team ropings, calf ropings, and barrel races. They also ran a backgrounding lot and ran yearlings. In 1997, Joey decided to get a “real job,” so the family relocated to Spring Creek, NV and he began working for Barrick Gold Strike Mine, driving a haul pack truck. The family continued to run yearlings and cow and calf pairs.
In 2001, they moved to Bowman, North Dakota where Joey managed Bowman Auction Market, until he struck out on his own and did order buying and again a backgrounding lot. In 2008, they moved back to the Scottsbluff, NE area. He worked for Winner Circle and Burford feedlots. Flipping Rural properties was a whole new challenge. At Stricker Auction, he was an auctioneer and ring man. The year 2014 finally brought a close to their relocating and Joey and Michelle landed in Harrisburg, NE. Joey felt he had found a home, good friends, neighbors, retirement, and a sense of peace. He had horses, yearlings, watched yearlings, and had his 4-wheeler riding companion, a Corgi named “Molly.”
Joey was an accomplished team roper, both header and heeler; a horseman; an auctioneer; a ring man; and Michelle’s social butterfly. When it came to wandering cattle, Joey would say, “there’s an ocean on both sides. They can’t get away.”
He was active in his church as an auctioneer for the St. Agnes School Gala and volunteered for several years in the RCIA program and helped with the distribution of Christmas boxes and toys. Joey always said he would like to teach his children two things, “how to think” and “how to work.” They learned both, and he could not have been prouder. Joey never met a stranger and has friends and acquaintances far and wide. Joey left this Earth after a great battle with a microscopic virus called covid. He is proceeded in death by his parents and baby brother.
Joey is survived by his wife of 44 years, Michelle; his daughter, Tammy (Stacey) Massey; two granddaughters, Keelee Hockett and Candy (Chris) Collins; and six great-grandchildren and four step-granddaughters. His son, Adam (Jackie) Lissolo; son, Chad (Lorena) Lissolo and three step-granddaughters; son, Cody (Jessyca) Lissolo and grandson, Adian. He is also survived by his sister, Myra (Bill) Reno; brother, TC (Susie) Lissolo; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
