Obituary for Joan Marion Pullen (Bangert)

Joan M. (Bangert) Pullen, 88 of Bayard, entered into eternal rest December 29, 2020 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Her funeral of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, January 4, 2021 at Faith United Church of Christ in Bayard with Pastor Tom Smith officiating. Face masks are required at the service. The funeral will be streamed on Bridgman Funeral Home Facebook page. Interment will follow at the Bayard Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 5 to 7 pm at the church. Joan was born May 12, 1932 to Fred and Mollie (Walker) Bangert Sr. at Bayard, the fourth of seven children. She was baptized July 3, 1932 and confirmed March 30, 1947 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bayard. She was raised and educated in rural Bayard schools, graduating from Bayard High School with the class of 1950.

She married William W. (Bill) Pullen on July 22, 1951 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bayard. They farmed and raised their family east of Bayard, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the church, the Women’s Fellowship, accompanied the German Ladies Choir, coached girls’ softball, and was involved with the Bayard High School Alumni Association.

Survivors left to mourn her death include her children Billie (Dale) Schneider of Bayard, Vickie (Gregory) Schmall of Bayard, and James (K.C.) Pullen of Omaha; grandchildren Lindey Pratt, Liza (Lea) Abercrombie, John (Anne Marie) Schmall, Kane (Tonia) Schmall, Mikah Schmall, Jack (Cassie) Pullen, Jordan Pullen (fiancée Leana Wolt), and Kamryn Pullen; great-grandchildren Taylor (Justin) Halbert, Paige Houston, Ayden Wysocki, Cole and Sage Abercrombie, George and Sophia Schmall, and Finley and Huxley Schmall; great-great grandson Emerson Halbert; sister Nadine (Eddy) McNabb of Bayard; brother-in-law Isidro Flores of Coffeyville, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill), parents Fred and Mollie Bangert Sr., siblings Fred (Lydia) Bangert Jr., Donald (Barbara) Bangert, Richard Bangert, Marlene (John) Weimer, and Sandra Flores; in-laws William F. and Pauline H. (Warrick) Pullen, Vern (Clarice) Pullen, Dorothy (Earl) McGee, Bonnie (Ike) Eigbrett, Betty (Joseph) Acker, Patricia (Leonard) Rohrbuck, Daisy (Frank) Kropp, and grandson Lukas G. Schmall.
