Obituary for Imogene "Jean" Roberts (Osborn)

Imogene “Jean” Osborn Roberts, 96, of Scottsbluff, passed away, Monday, September 9, 2019, at The Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. Her memorial service will be held, 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019, at The Residency Chapel in Scottsbluff, with Father Mark Selvey and Dr. Charles Richardson officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Memorials have been established to the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library, The Residence Care Center and Western Nebraska Community College Foundation.

Imogene Margaret (Osborn) Roberts was born July 25, 1923, at Dalton, Nebraska to William F. and Mabel (Harmon) Osborn. She graduated from Dalton High School. She married R. Jay Roberts on August 8, 1941. They lived in Hay Springs for three years, before moving to Scottsbluff, where she has resided since. She and her husband moved to Northfield Villa in 1987, and to The Residency in 1993.

She earned an Associate Degree from Scottsbluff College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. She taught at Longfellow Elementary and Scottsbluff Junior High before teaching psychology and serving as counselor at Western Nebraska Community College. She retired as Director of Counseling in 1985.

She was a life member of the National Education Association and the American Association of University Women, where she served as Branch President in 1965-66, and State President in 1969-71. After retirement she served on the Bioethics Committee of Regional West Medical Center, the Board of Homestead Halfway House, Inc., and the Board of Northfield Villa, Inc. She was a member of Great Books.

Survivors include her son, John Osborn (Lynette) Roberts of Hot Springs, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Jennifer Odell and Ray Jay Odell both of Denver, Colorado, Amanda Roberts of Seattle, Washington, and David Odell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and seven great-grandchildren, Hanna Marie, Dillon Kain, Kiera, Kaden, Bryson, Adriana, and Chase.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; daughter, Janet Carol Odell; sisters, Vinita Cross, Doris Mays, and Evelyn Anderson.
