Obituary for Imogene Rose Briggs (Hart)
Imogene Rose (Hart) Briggs passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on October 13, 2021. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Imogene was born on November 25, 1927, in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Oscar and Lula Hart. The family moved to Colorado when she was eight years old, where she attended the Walsenburg school, and graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs in 1947.
She attended Boise Bible College in Boise, Idaho where she met Howard Briggs of Lyman, Nebraska. In 1950, the couple married in Colorado Springs where they resided for two years. They then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where Howard continued to attend Bible College. Eventually, they moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where Howard attended a very young Platte Valley Bible College, graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree. Through all of his schooling, Imogene accompanied him, providing much needed support and sermon typing. The couple moved on to pastor several churches in the region, eventually settling in Gering, Nebraska.
While raising their own family, Howard and Imogene were foster parents for eight years, caring for over 100 children of all ages. She then became an in-home care giver for 22 years. Imogene will be lovingly remembered for her vibrant personality and her heart of gold. She enjoyed crocheting “wedding afghans” for many newly married couples in the area, and baby blankets for dozens of new mothers.
Imogene is survived by her husband of 71 years, Howard; sons Nate of Olympia, WA; Timm (Cheryl) of Huntsville, TX; daughters Rachel (Tim) Matthews of Platte Center, NE; Rhoda (Vaughn) Frailey of Gering, NE; Mary (Mike) Soltani of Renton, WA; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Arcile Berry of Colorado Springs, CO.
