Obituary for Delfina Garza

On August 24th, 2022, Delfina Garza passed peacefully in her home. Her love, patience, values, understanding, wisdom, humor, and shared memories will live on in all of our hearts. You will forever be missed! Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mitchell with Fr. Mike McDonald as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill. Visitation will be on Tuesday at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell from 3-6pm with a Rosary Service at 6 at the funeral home. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Delfina’s honor be made in care of her family. Delfina Garza was born on March 1, 1939, in Dr. Gonzales, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Delfina Garza was the daughter of Eduardo and Maria Antonia Garza and had nine other siblings: Mario, Eva, Ofelia, Maria, Enedina, Guadalupe, Fidencio, Mario, and Yaya. In her younger years, at the age of 16, she met and married the love of her life Cristobal Garza on December 18th, 1955. They lived in Los Ramones, Nuevo Leon, Mexico where they decided to raise their five children: Juan Gerardo, Maria Anita, Victor Manuel, Raquel and Josie.
In 1956, early in their marriage they decided to follow the American dream and traveled to the United States and moved to Weslaco, Texas. For the next 26 years Delfina and her family worked various agricultural jobs and traveled states such as Texas, Montana and Washington. No matter where they lived, they always returned home to Ramones, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. In 1991, they arrived in Nebraska to reunite with their children and decided to call it their new forever home.
Delfina Garza was such a beautiful, caring and loving wife, sister, friend, mother and grandmother. She was a grandmother to everyone; her big heart always ensured that every person that crossed her path was happy, healthy and always fully fed. She had an immense love for cooking, gardening her plants/ flowers and enjoyed making loved one’s special crochet blankets.
Delfina Garza was married for 50 years and was preceded by her husband’s passing in 2005.
She is survived by her children Juan Gerardo and Rosemary Garza, Maria Anita and Eugenio Montemayor, Victor Manuel Garza, Raquel and Joe Saldivar and Josie and Craig Carlson. She is survived by 16 grandchildren Geno and Stormi Montemayor, Laurel Garza and Bailo Santos, Alex Montemayor, Sophie and Manolin Garza, Cinthia Garza and Juan Morales, Jessica and Spencer Brown, Melissa Garza, Roy Garza and Madison Keller, Victor Garza, Vianney Garza, Anissa Carlson and Caitlyn Carlson. She is survived by 21 great grandchildren Mathew, Makayla, Marcus, Christopher, Allynah, Isaiah, AJ, Ximenah, Jiovani, Logan, JC, Shaila, Julian, Carter, Parker, Blake, Julius, Davian,Kimani, Myah and Mariah.
