Obituary for Christopher M Varela

Christopher Varela, 22 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center. His funeral service was held on May 26, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.bridgmanfuneralhome.com. Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff was entrusted with arrangements.
He was born on August 10, 1999, at Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Cecilia Varela. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School.
After diagnosed at an early age with his terminal illness, Christopher dealt with his illness like a true champion. Never using his struggles as an excuse to give up or give in. Instead, he used it as an opportunity to show others the true meaning of strength and endurance. He touched many people’s lives by his example and will forever be remembered by those who knew him and how much he loved and cared for those around him. He had a heart of gold like no other and despite his daily struggles, he still put the need of others before his own, especially his sisters and mom who he loved more than anything. He stayed positive and humble regardless of anything that came his way.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music. His faith was most important to him. He was a member of Our Lady Guadalupe parish.
Survivors include his mother Cecilia and sisters Cedees and Catalina Varela all of the home; faithful canine companion Gizmo; grandmother Lori Munoz, uncles Cat Varela and Diego Varela and aunt Judy Gurrola and special aunt Pema Varela (who was a huge part during his final time), cousin Lalo and great uncle Lucio and Naldo and numerous great aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Catalino Varela and Julio Aguallo and grandmothers Thomas Aguallo and Reynalda Varela.
We would like to thank Dr. Cheloha for all she did for Christopher and our family, for her compassion and dedication to making sure Christopher had the best life he could possibly have, the Denver's children hospital muscle clinic team and favorite nephew Tom.
