Obituary for Christine Barajas (Lopez)
Christine Barajas, 93, of Scottsbluff, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Friday, Feb 24, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Fr. Rayappa Konka as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Rosary Service will be held at 9:30am at the church on Friday. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Christine’s honor be made in care of Regional West Hospice. Christine "Chrissy" (Lopez) Barajas was born October 25, 1929 in Minatare, NE to Pedro and Crescencia Lopez. She was one of 11 children. The family were migrant farm workers that settled permanently in the Minatare area in the late 1930s. She married in 1948 to Leon Barajas. They lived in the Minatare area and raised 3 sons and one daughter: Gabriel, Alvin, Marco, and Ufemia "Pam" (Lind). Christine worked at Harry's Cafe and Gary's in Minatare and at Bailey's Market in Scottsbluff making salads in the deli.
She is survived by her son, Gabriel and her daughter, Ufemia and her son-in-law Brian. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Bettina (Hebert), Marcus, Scott, and David. She cherished her great-granddaughter Rose (Hebert), who she lovingly called her Preciosa. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, which included 2 sisters and 8 brothers, and by her sons, Marco and Alvin.
