Charlene was born April 10th, 1939, in Minatare, NE to Jake and Millie (Propp) Wegelin. She attended elementary school at Dome Rock. She loved to play basketball and was a mean “lefty” shooter. She was very active in 4-H and received many honors for her sewing projects. She graduated from Gering High School in 1957. She was married on December 8, 1957, to Marvin Eskam. They had two daughters, Joni and Kristi. Charlene and Marv shared the same birthday and oddly were born in the same house 5 years apart. They were married just short of 40 years. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Charlene was a supportive farm wife. She worked alongside Marv by driving trucks, irrigating and whatever else was needed. She was also employed with Platte Valley Federal Savings and Loan and Ample Annie’s. She was everyone’s biggest supporter, especially her grandchildren. Charlene was known for her kind heart and genuine hospitality.
Her home always had an open-door policy for friendly conversation or an extra plate for anyone, anytime. She was a devoted servant to her Church. She was active in Mary Martha Circle, Sunday School teacher, VBS, and was the Sunday School pianist for over 50 years. Most importantly she was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ.
Survivors include daughters Joni Pilkington, Kristi (Dean) Weborg; special nephew Todd (Heather) Neu; grandchildren, JaCee Petko (Michael), JaLee Pilkington, Daniel (Jamie) Weborg, Ty and Ashley Weborg; great-grandchildren Olivia and Jack Petko, Layla, Jayde, and Bo Weborg; nieces MarLee and MaCee Neu; sister Renee Anderson; sister-in-law Pat Eskam; brothers-in-law Roger Eskam and Monte (Jacque) Neu.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, son-in-law Jess Pilkington, parents Jacob (Millie) Wegelin, in-laws Jacob (Wilma) Eskam, brother Jerry (Wilma) Wegelin, brothers-in-laws Carl Anderson and Alvin Eskam and sister-in-law Marlyce (Eskam) Neu.
