Carol was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on July 13, 1942, to Henry and Elnora (Bauer) Huber. As a child she was very ambitious and worked hard to achieve her goals. During her teenage years she babysat, worked at Woolworth’s, Platte Valley Creamery and was a car hop at the Arrowhead Drive-in where she met the love of her life. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1960 and married Marvin R Rogers on August 7, 1960. Marvin and Carol welcomed their son, Jay, in July 1961 and their daughter, Jill, in February 1963.
After beginning their family, Carol pursued her teaching profession by attending Scottsbluff Junior College, Hiram Scott College and then graduated with her teaching degree in 1968 from Tarkio College in Missouri. She later earned her master’s degree in 1972 from Chadron State College. Carol went on to teach in the Gering School District for 30 years and influenced the lives of hundreds of students. She began her teaching career in 1969 at Gering Central and went on to teach at McKinley, Lincoln, and Northfield Elementary Schools. She loved teaching and sharing her passion for knowledge as well as setting and achieving goals.
Carol was a gifted artist. She had a knack for color and was an excellent quilter, painter (tole & oil) as well as a calligraphist. She was an active member of local quilting and painting clubs. In her spare time, she also loved to read and was involved in supporting the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library by serving on the Board of Directors. As a young girl, Carol helped her grandfather ring the bells of the original Salem Congregational Church. She remained an active life-time member and supported various church groups, including The Friendly Circle. She was also a past President of PEO - Chapter GA, The Quilters Guild, and the Scottsbluff Jaycee women’s organization.
Devoting time for family was very important to Carol. She was a dedicated daughter who helped care for her parents as they aged. She was also a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother who supported her family at their sporting and school events. The family cherishes the quilts that she made for them to memorialize their interests or special events in their lives. Carol was also known to cook wonderful family dinners and always had cookies to share. In the summers, the family would spend time at various lakes camping and boating. Carol loved to water ski. She also had a passion for hot air balloon rides and dancing. She and Marv graced the dance floor every chance they got.
