Obituary for Arthur Lawrence "Larry" Wagner

Arthur Lawrence (Larry) Wagner died August 24, 2022 in Mitchell, Nebraska at the age of 85. His memorial service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Holy Apostles’ Episcopal Church in Mitchell with Deacon Angela Jones officiating. Larry was born to Alvin and Frances (Hansen) Wagner on March 6, 1937 in Morrill County, Nebraska. They made their home in rural Bayard, later moving to the Sunflower community and then to Mitchell. Larry attended Wild Horse #2 School near Bayard, Sunflower School, and Mitchell Public Schools, graduating from Mitchell in 1954.
He worked as a mechanic before serving in the US Army from 1959 - 1962, going through basic training at Ft. Riley, KS and then spending a year in Korea working as a tank operator. He married Marilyn Mohr on June 11, 1961. After living in Olympia, Washington and Salem, Oregon, the couple returned home to Mitchell in 1963. They had two children, Julie and Gary.
Larry worked as a mechanic at the B & C garage, as a lineman and foreman for Roosevelt Public Power District and finished his career at the light and water department at the City of Mitchell. He retired from the city in 1997. Larry served many years on the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department, several of those as Fire Chief. He served on the vestry of Holy Apostles’ Episcopal Church where he could often be found performing electrical work or other types of repairs. He enjoyed family camping trips, fishing, woodworking, taking care of his lawn, and collecting antique tools. He also enjoyed restoring a 1952 Allis Chalmers “G” tractor and driving it in County Fair Parades.
Larry is survived by his daughter Julie (Greg) Wilber, Stillwater OK; his son Gary (Marcy) Wagner, Larned, KS; his grandchildren Eric Lovelace, Alec Wilber, Andie Wilber, and Crystal (Derrick) Dart & family; brother-in-law Steve Patrick; nieces and nephew Laurie Wieting, Susan Bejot, and Blayne Patrick; uncle Vern (Vicki) Wagner; aunts Iola Hill and Donna Mae Robinson; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents Alvin and Frances Wagner; his sister Norma Patrick; mother-in-law Helen Mohr; and sister and brother-in-law Marcella and Wesly Parish.
