Alice was born on July 29, 1928 to Amzi and Gertrude (Johnson) Jessup at the Methodist Hospital in Scottsbluff. Her family lived in the Wright’s Gap area of Banner County. They moved to a farm north of McGrew where she lived throughout her childhood years and attended Snell District #25 rural school. Upon graduation from Minatare High School, with the class of 1945, she attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. Her first year of teaching was at Pioneer District S24. She completed her college education at Chadron State in 1950 with a degree in elementary education. She then taught school in Rawlins, Wyoming and Modesto, California.
She married Robert (Bob) Walters in 1953. They lived in Gering and raised their daughters Sharlynn and Jane. Bob passed away in 1978. In 1989, she married Les Reuter. He passed away in 1995.
Alice taught school in Gering for 30 years. Upon retiring she became involved in volunteer work. She was a long-time volunteer “Pink Lady” at Regional West Hospital. For many years, she committed Tuesday mornings to ”Calling for Seniors” at CO-OP. Her true passion was volunteering and supporting the Evergreen Community Greenhouse in Gering. Another rewarding volunteer position was serving as an ombudsman visiting residents in nursing homes. Volunteering at the North Platte Valley Museum led to a great interest of preserving the history of the local rural schools. Countless hours were spent in research, collecting rural school memorabilia, then organizing and presenting to a wide variety of groups. This contribution to the community is kept in the archives at the Legacy of Plains Museum. She also created and presented a patriotic flag program for school children and adults as well. Alice gave of herself to the community and received numerous volunteer awards. Among them, she received the AARP Outstanding Community Service Award. Additionally, she was given the distinction of being the 2014 Old Settlers Honorary Vice President of Oregon Trail Days.
Over the years Alice was a member/lifetime member of various organizations. These include VFW Auxiliary 1681, PEO Chapter GI, Monument Iris Society, AARP, and Rebecca Winters Genealogy. She was a board member of the Oregon Trail Museum Association and lifetime member of the North Platte Museum. Alice was one of the contributing committee members who organized and complied the book “Minatare Memories.” She was a member of Harvest Valley Church.
Alice greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and was proud of their fine accomplishments. It was a joy to compile, organize and create genealogical history books for her family.
She is survived by brother Robert Jessup in Maryland. Daughters and spouses Sharlynn (Ron) Rushing, Tucson AZ; Jane (Larry) Burk, Scottsbluff. Grandchildren: Ben (Sarah) Rushing, Stephanie Rushing, Jon (Rachel) Rushing, all of Tucson. Allison (Marcus) Jones of College Station TX and Kevin Burk of Milliken CO. Great Grandchildren Autumn, Emalyn, Gabriela, Liam of Tucson; Eisley and Emerson of College Station. Stepson Steve (Carol) Reuter of San Jose CA, Step- grandchildren Adam, Daniel, Brian, Kevin Reuter and Step-great-grandson Malcom Reuter, along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by husbands Bob Walters and Les Reuter, sister Lillian Covalt, parents Amzi and Gertrude Jessup, Stepsons Mike and Ron Reuter, and infant great-granddaughter Aspen Sunshine Jones along with numerous in-laws.
Alice will always be remembered for her kind, loving and servant heart.

To the family of Mrs. Walters,
She was my third grade teacher. I remember her and her family as we were also members of St. Timothy's church. She was such a sweet, kind lady. I am proud to call her friend. I would have liked to let her know that I finally received my Bachelors degree this past December and am now pursuing my Masters Degree. Teachers DO make a difference in a child's life.

I first met Alice at the Evergreen house when they first started doing farmers markets. She was one of the kindest most helpful people I have ever met and was lucky enough to call her a friend. After getting to know her she discovered one of her friends was my aunt, Bette Huber House. Wonderful wonderful memories! She had a smile and laugh that could light up a room. I will certainly miss her.
