Obituary for Alexander G Lopez

Our father, brother, uncle and grandfather, Alexander G. Lopez passed away peacefully on September 9, 2022. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at All Soul’s Catholic Church in Bridgeport with Fr. Tim Stoner as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport. Rosary Service will be held at 9:15am on Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be Monday at Bridgman Funeral Home in Bridgeport from 5-7pm. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Alex’s honor be made in care of the church. Alex was born April 24, 1932, in Deerfield, KS to Joe E. and Patricia (Gonzales) Lopez. He was raised in Scott City, KS until the family moved to Bayard, NE in 1950. He was the oldest of 14 children.
Alex was drafted into the service on March 4, 1952, and served in the Army during the Korean War, stationed in Korea. Later, after returning home, Alex and Laura Almeda Cordero were united in marriage on January 21, 1959, in Harrisburg, NE.
He worked at Great Western Sugar factory for a short while, then worked at S A Foster Lumber Company in Bridgeport, NE for 26 years. After it closed, he worked for Panhandle Coop until retirement in 1997.
He was a member of All Souls Catholic Church where he served as an usher and in hospitality ministry. He was a member of the Eagle Aerie #2813 and was a member of the American Legion in Bayard, NE.
Alex is survived by his son Arnold Lopez of North Platte, NE; daughter Jackie (Tim) Kirchhoff of Bozeman, MT; sisters Alice Herrera, Kansas City, MO, Angie Navarro, Phoenix, AZ, Lucille (Ernest) Vera, Bayard, NE, Juanita Stark, Bristow, OK, Carmen Arsiaga, Lincoln, NE, Mary (Robert) Auman, Lincoln, NE, Lori Mathiessen, Lincoln, NE; brothers Tony, Lincoln, NE, Joe Jr. (Pat), Lincoln, NE Louie (Mary), Madison, NE, Henry (Linda), Wilber, NE and Frank (Tammy Schwaller), Waverly, NE. He was blessed with six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren whom he adored and loved very much. He was also very proud of his many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Alex.
He was preceded in death by his first-born son Gilbert; parents; spouse Laura and sister Gloria Muniz.
He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, politeness, generosity, and most of all his true kindness to all who knew him.
